Learning o365 is not rocket science and is not going to take years. If it's going to open some doors and get you into IT (don't know what you're doing right now) - you should totally spend the time. Then you can move on with more advanced knowledge, experience and certs (including Azure path, if that's what you want to become good at).

Right, some professions are easier to get in as junior level, simply because, I would imagine Jr level Helpdesk positions are more abundant, therefore less competitive. But I still don't know if that's the route he wants to go by focusing on O365. You sure can take it up to and likely past $200k, ive seen it. Just as you can take the other path in excess of $200k. But then we're back again to him just picking a path.

A helpdesk making more than $200k?... i'm sure you can count those instances on your fingers. The range is usually MUCH lower.
He needs to understand that he's not going to make anywhere near that for quite some time though. While making as much money as possible sounds great, it can very likely guide someone into making decisions that he/she is going to regret. I'd not want to do something i hate doing, even if i'm paid really well. Helpdesk/IT support in general is not something that anyone can or should do and usually is just a way to get into IT/a specific company.

Yup, it's a good discussion to have, even if the result is "this isn't the right question to ask." That's great, so what IS the right question to ask?

My thoughts are: "what's more important to have a certification in to get a better job - O365 or Azure?"

You need to define what a "better job" for YOU is first.

Your resume should be tailored to that specific job. Can't tell much without seeing the ad and job description. Who knows what the position you're going to apply for is and if it's a good match for the skills and experience you list.

Security is such a broad topic, there is no such thing as THE BEST cert. You have to be way more specific

we're looking into building a CEPH cluster and while bonding multiple 10Gb interfaces should do it at the beginning, we should outgrow it pretty soon. Adding more storage nodes will complicate things even further.
The next step up is 25Gb or 40Gb. We use Nexus 3172 10Gb+40Gb uplinks refurbs in prod that we get for cheap (~$4k). Cisco gets pretty expensive at full 25Gb/40Gb though.
Both Melanox and FS have cheaper options for that, however Melanox cost 2-3x more for a similar spec switch. Is there an obvious reason for that?
Wondering if any of you had experience with either. Quality in general, support and warranty, etc.
Currently we have smartnets, so we get decent support and they answer pretty much any question and help with config if we're lucky to hit CCIE right away or wait until it gets escalated high enough.
How is this different when going with Melanox/FS?
Also, is there a big difference between Cisco IOS and Melanox Onyx, Cumulus linux, etc. configuration?

That "harmful light blocking" coating for prescription lenses really helps. My eyes get sore after a full day of looking at my screen if i forget them at home. Also, i used to wear Gunnar glasses. Could not believe how blue the screen looked if i took them off after wearing them for a couple of hours. I highly doubt they track all the part serials. You always have to provide server service tags.

Other than that it is accurate. In Scott's proposal you are making the shift from migrating the entire workload (which is essentially instant) to migrating the database only.

In his case, the load balancer is the weak link in the chain. Granted these don't fail often but it isn't something you have control over either unless you provide your own for the COLO.
