For all the vm's everything else is running pretty smoothly. This is the first time at any point I've felt a IOPS issue. Which is good We are tiny so we only have about 25 VM's running.

RE: Ubiquiti NVR Performance Improvement
Which settings specifically? I know reducing some of the video settings will lessen the performance impact.

RE: Ubiquiti NVR Performance Improvement
@penguinwrangler yes it doesn't require that much but ohhhh you can get penalized on the storage. 25 Cameras.

RE: Ubiquiti NVR Performance Improvement
@coliver Also to point out, it's only this 1 vm that needs performance like crazy for all the time writes. I know one idea is to increase the ram to the vm and add more to the RAMDISK to hopefully not saturate the buffer. But that is a limited option.

RE: Ubiquiti NVR Performance Improvement
@coliver I agree
just making a point that wasn't the only option
-
RE: Ubiquiti NVR Performance Improvement
@coliver That's not the only option though. Switching from 7.2 to 10k and 15k are two different options as much as getting ssds or nvme. I due believe strongly in going ssd first but at the time of the purchase, ssd wasn't considered. 90% of the workloads we have are running ok with good performance!

Ubiquiti NVR Performance Improvement
Hey guys, from a storage point of view, how can I improve the Ubiquiti NVR performance? The host I have is a Dell R530, dual proc, 16 cores each, 64 GB of RAM, 8 TB of HDD's (4, 2-TB HDD's in RAID 10, SAS 7200RPM), using Xenserver 7.2 release. I do have most of my vm's hosted on this one. I am considering moving the vm to my 2nd host which doesn't have any real vm's running all the time.
Ubiquiti support has enabled a RAM Disk on the vm. It's Windows Server 2012 R2. The vm has 4 vCPU's, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD.
Problem we are getting is the storage is getting slow enough to impact the write heavy camera's hitting the nvr.

RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
Well see the office wifi is talking to only office devices, the guest wifi hell it's a wild wild west. Non profit or not lol don't think I want to pay for every device we have in here

RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
@dashrender said in UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue:
ired, everything stays completely separa
I wouldn't have a license issue either way, I have DC
but your right that would mean I would have fun to deal with. I wasn't intending for the guest WIFi to be on windows anyways, I use the same wifi at home it's just easier to keep up with it on the ubiquiti.

RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
GOTCHA!
So what should have occured originally was, when the router was configured, it should have only included the 10.10.0.1 gateway for the eth1 interface. Then from the Windows Server, when setting up the scope, each scope should have been spelled out as 10.10.0.1 - 10.10.3.254 then I could have came back and made one more scope to only be 10.10.4.1 through 10.10.4.254 (just for guest wifi).

RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
Not using it but if this would lessen the burden, I would go ahead and get it done now vs waiting for it to fall in my pants months down the road lol.

RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
I guess the confusing part for me, is from my point of view, I'm trying to figure out why would I need all 4 of the LANS there on the router? I assume this is so the router can see between each network and route.

RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
Thanks guys!
So for my interface on eth1 include the following:
10.10.0.1
10.10.1.1
10.10.2.1
10.10.3.1I use Ubiquiti for the wireless also and the company wifi is using whatever is free from the dhcp server scope (the windows 2012 r2 box). So when I reset the Guest Wifi just only include 10.10.4.1 and when I need more space, just switch from /24 to /22 as need permits.

RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
So from the router we still have 3 different lans set up. There is 2.x, 3.x and 4.x
I assume the 0.x and 1.x were originally intended to be reserved for the ROBO (kinda backwards). However, because that is an issue in itself for another post Ill let that one go lol

RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
Yes and I apologize brother.
I guess for me, I need to break this down into chunks and accomplish specific things first. I'm still a bit "noob".
From the Ubiquiti router, of course, it's been wiped and re-setup. I have one interface still set up with the 10.10.2.x through 4.x from the router.
I'm not clear if moving forward starting from the router, what has to be accomplished.

RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
Stepping back to take another stab at this issue.
@Dashrender from the Edge Router, how should the interface be set up for my LAN?
-
RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
@jaredbusch i agree i use to work in a few nocs. I miss our old t1 provider they actively stayed in communication
-
RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
Strongly considering swapping to fiber since its finally being rolled out.
-
RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
@dashrender VOIP has been an issue (we used cable business class). But the router being compromised also lead to failures.
-
RE: UBNT EdgeRouter LAN Config Issue
@dashrender yep. Been fixing them as we go. The building we are in, we chose (unfortunately) to reuse wiring and to add new wiring where needed. This building is roughly 50 years old. Been through at least 10 business changes.
I think most issues now are probably due to config more than wiring.
