      Stellaris - perhaps

Men Of War: Assault Squad 2 - if I'm feeling particularly flush or it's deeply discounted

      I'd forgotten about Stellaris...hmm.

I've heard it's got a ton of promise but it's not quite fleshed out and balanced yet. Apparently still worth purchasing.

Being an "American" (take that in every way you possible can) I just don't really see the big deal.

To me, trades will change for that part of the world, commerce will certainly change as well. Population movements will likely change as well.

But how does this effect me?

I'm just not seeing why I should care. Besides being something to talk about.

I'd like Canada to get a couple new provinces but that's just my $0.02

edit: call it the United Kingdom, use the UK parliament structure, split the UK into provinces as appropriate and call it a job well done.

I've not really followed the issue to know which side has more benefit - Member or non-Member of the EU. So I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. I suppose time will tell...

Depends, it doesn't make sense to leave from an economic standpoint. It doesn't really make sense to leave from a social standpoint. One of the biggest arguments was that the EU was forcing the UK to open its borders to refugees and immigrants, leaving the EU allowed the UK to better protect itself from those forces.

"Protect itself" from helping those in need is the basic premise we hear in the EU.

No argument there... I agree with you but was trying to present the argument in an unbiased way.

I think protecting itself implies a danger rather than a dislike for helping those of non-European heritage. It's not about danger, it's about dislike. Which is why so many people are so upset about how the vote went from the outside. That the US is anti-Semitic is well known and the level of open racism in the US is what it is. The UK was supposed to be better but this seems to be stooping to the American level and that is very upsetting. This will make it so much easier for Americans to carry on with it to yet another level in their next elections too. It's a snowball effect, just like in the 1920s. Not that it will happen, but this is how it starts.

      ^^ This. Period. Thanks Scott.

One thing that is misleading, potentially, is do loose gun laws in one state create risk in a neighbouring one? It's trivial to buy a gun in Florida and drive it into Georgia, for example.

It would be really nice to stop the trade of pot for handguns between our countries

@MattSpeller said in Is Texas Next?:

@BBigford I share your enthusiasm for firearms even if I do not own nearly as many. What I don't understand is why anyone would carry one around. It.... just does not compute for me. We may need another thread for just that.

Aside from a few home invasion attempts in various cities, I've also had various people try to enter our vehicle when we come to a stop sign or pedestrian crossings. We have the doors locked so I typically just pull away quickly when I hear them on the door handle. Some areas were very nice neighborhoods and they were just dumb kids that looked like they were on drugs, others were sketchy neighborhoods that couldn't have been avoided because of how the layout of the city was and where our destination was.

I also have been approached when I'm biking or on foot by aggressive homeless people in some of the parks that I will jog in or bike on the trail. A gun is just a tool, nothing more. You can't brandish it at someone to intimidate them or make them go away. But if it comes down to it, you have the tool to survive a situation. Luckily I've never had to draw on someone, and I hope I never have to. But if I'm put in that situation, I won't be the one that ends up in the obituaries and force my family to find another means of financial support. That's why I carry a firearm.

You have noble motives and from what you posted previously you are probably better trained than many police officers. Infact I know you are because I shoot with many of them here and they definitely do not train that hard haha.

I (personally!) can't justify the extreme responsibility of carrying a firearm out of fear. Out of duty like a police officer, absolutely. But without a societal role and responsibility to your fellow citizens hell no. Maybe it's because handguns are so rare here? Maybe it's crime? Maybe no one messes with 6' tall, young, well dressed gentlemen built like brick outhouses? Whatever the reason the whole idea gives me the creeps.

However I could imagine having a professional militia who were trained and held to high standards being allowed to carry. Just any regular mouth breathing moron though? These are the things nightmares are made of.

His clearly exploitative approach is what bothers me the most I think.

      1. Speak directly to an audience about it's specific regional problem and promise to fix it, but with no specific steps or plan.

      2. When you are confronted with evidence that you hold incompatible ideas, tell the person to go fuck themselves.

      3. Revel in the applause you receive from your audience for this action because they all think you'll do what they want

So I should probably refrain from any small scale currency speculation? For a moment, it almost seemed like a good idea to buy a hundred pounds for 136 bucks.

Over/Under is running about 20 bucks so you'd lose any gains in the fees

Exactly. Basically $10,000 is the minimum buy for an FX speculation and the maximum hold is 48 hours. If you try to drop below $10 or hold longer than two days... you are screwed.

@coliver It's not that bad, and the best part of a real authentic Canadian Caesar is making your own! The only real essential ingredients are hard alcohol and Clamato juice.

Some things I've seen in/on/above them include:

      • more strips of bacon than liquid
      • pickled eggs
      • herring
      • BBQ sauce
      • fried chicken
      • hamburgers
      • onion rings
