      Tilting at windmills....

Just had a user stick a toner cartridge into the printer to replace the empty one. ๐Ÿ‘

User didn't remove the "OMFG REMOVE BEFORE USE" bright orange toner pull tabs. ๐Ÿ‘Ž

This did not wreck the printer, or the toner cartridge. ๐Ÿ‘

I'm going to consider this a minor win.

A B&W inkjet is any inkjet that doesn't have color cartridges installed. Granted the printer might refuse to print if you send a color print job to it... unlike a B&W laser.

**The following is my spleen vent / rant - you've been warned. I spent 15 minutes sitting in my car yelling at the radio and returned to write the following.
      **
The local talk radio station here in Victoria just played a full 15min clip of "Dr" Barrie Trower spouting off about the dangers of WiFi radiation. I believe this is the clip they played, though as a disclaimer I could not listen to it again without having my gorge rise.

      Youtube Video

Here's the email I sent in to the host:

      Hello Mr Jessop,

I am incredibly surprised and disappointed that you gave this nut job any airtime โ€“ with even some cursory research you would see his claims have been debunked from coast to coast.

Should you consider his claims to have any merit I would ask you to try an experiment at home for yourself. Purchase a roast and place it in the microwave on high for 5 minutes. Remove it from the microwave and cut it in half. You will observe that microwaves (AKA non-ionizing radiation around 2.4ghz, AKA wifi, AKA millimetre frequencies, AKA EHF, etc) does not penetrate through the whole roast - it acts upon the first water molecules it encounters, cooking it from the outside inward. Now imagine someone turned a โ€œmicrowave weaponโ€ on you โ€“ how do you think it would affect your body? Is it reasonable to think that this would affect your internal organs before your skin?

In regards to the "microwave radiation weapons" he mentions, they are indeed real! They do work quite nicely (although I consider them unsafe & very susceptible to abuse) and have been tested by (at minimum) the United States Army. Please see the below link for a brief demonstration. You will notice that no one drops dead, no one's brains explode out their ears and no ladies present have their ovaries 'nuked from the inside out as Barrie Trower would have you believe such a powerful (200,000 watt!!) microwave would do.

      Youtube Video

If you require any further proof of this manโ€™s quackery, I have linked below to some further reading. I would be much obliged if you would cease to give these blatantly false claims any further air time. An apology for airing his garbage would be fantastic, though I will not hold my breath.

    • RE: Computer imaging for depolyment

Couple of the most key points I've learned about deployment(s)

      • Have one replacement laptop & desktop at minimum ready to roll 24/7, 365. You will need it most when you least expect it.

      • Have a base image, update it a week after patch Tuesday every month

      • Buy all the same model of laptop / desktop. There is no good reason to have more than 1 model of desktop and AT MOST two models of laptop purchased in a year.

      • Make a checklist for deployment and stick it on each computer. Tick all the boxes as you complete them and sign it, date it, and leave it on the computer until it gets deployed.

      • Have a standardized method of data xfer/backup and stick to it.

      • Label/serialize laptops/desktops and keep a list of it all. More details the better.

.... more as I think of them.

Precisely what we use the 9PX for. Servers stay up for the ~10-15 mins it takes to shut them down, then the bulk of the run time goes to our PoE switches + Mitel box to keep the phones running in case of emergency.

Spent this morning chasing around removing this. It causes outlook to start in safemode and screws with your view prefs.

Recommended action: blacklist it on your WSUS.
