    • RE: cannot access gmail when bypassing proxy server (sometimes not always !!!!????)

The proxy is based on Squid. Squidguard gives you some additional filtering options, but is based on the proxy service already running.. Enabling transparent proxy will force all outgoing web traffic through that proxy without having to configure each client.

Yes. I tried to force a burn using the options on the "Files Waiting To Be Burned To Disc" page as well, and it does absolutely nothing.

The goal isn't to use that feature, but to empty it out first. Once you empty out the files waiting to be burned, you may be able to successfully burn the ISO.

I would probably say my current job, if we are talking IT jobs. To be fair I have only had two. I am "new" around 6 months but getting approval to buy minuscule things such as mice/keyboards/cords for users that obviously need them annoys me.

The list goes on of course, but the crux of this job was starting as the first IT guy (never had any in their 40 year operation) and inheriting individual networks/ISPs/etc completely undocumented at 37 locations across the US. I have managed to wrangle a lot of that in, but that gives you an idea to their mindset. Technology is the last thing they think about even in 2014.

That's actually a great place to grow, then. The challenge will be infusing the culture with the notion that technology can help them. if you an give them proof that it will help, you may be in a good position grow the department and your career.

Most companies, except for the really small ones, have a purchase requisition process. The trick with those is to identify the items that you go through on a regular basis, then set up a Kanban system for them. That way, you'll only have to purchase them once in a while, have some on hand, and make the purchaser's life easier.

Also, if you have switches that support CDP, your ESXi hosts will tell you what they're plugged into.

He posted there first. This is for taking from client site to client site, not for a permanent setup which Spiceworks handles very poorly and is not designed around.

Fair enough. Spiceworks isn't very portable.

Ah, files waiting to burn. Pop a blank disk into your drive, then click on it. Does it show files?

A 4S is a pretty old phone. Perhaps the battery finally gave out?

    • RE: Linux Mint an Ideal Replacement to XP?

I'd have to say no. If there's a machine still running XP, it's likely for some bizarre application/hardware compatibility reasons. If it won't run under Win7, chances are that it won't run on Linux (and if it does, have slim to none chance of being supported by the vendor).

I did some digging, and you aren't the first person to have this issue. I've seen discussions about it dating back to 2010. Alas, none of them appear to have answers.

Do you have access to a Windows machine? You could use diskpart and clean the drive to wipe it out.

I just ran a test, and OWA's new item count mirrored Outlook. Have you tried a different browser? You mentioned your system has 2 browsers, but didn't mention if you tested with both. Also, check your antivirus and browser plugins/addins. Something may be interfering with the automatic page updates.
