Upper management is SO cheap that there have been multiple times where I've shown them "deals" that we could purchase from various vendors, but management says that I HAVE to get them quotes from Amazon (because they "get points for shopping on there, and then use the points for 'free purchases'"). It's hard to work with bean counters who don't even know how to logically count beans... :-S

Time to start working on that resume.

Fedora 29 on ARM on AWS

This week Amazon announced their new A1 arm64 EC2 Instances powered by their arm64 based Graviton Processors and, with a minor delay, the shiny new Fedora 29 for aarch64 (arm64) is now available to run there too!

Details on getting running on AWS is in this good article on using AWS tools on Fedora article and over all using Fedora on the AWS arm64 EC2 is the same as x86_64.

We did that whole RH thing. My boss and I both learned from both sides not to do that again.

They require for you to work for them for 6 months while they skim off of your paycheck. After the 6 months, they charge the client company $5k to buyout your contract. Otherwise, you move on to other pastures, no matter if they're greener or not.

New year, new GitHub: Announcing unlimited free private repos and unified Enterprise offering

Today we’re announcing two major updates to make GitHub more accessible to developers: unlimited free private repositories, and a simpler, unified Enterprise offering. We’re excited about these updates to our Free and Enterprise offerings:

      • GitHub Free now includes unlimited private repositories. For the first time, developers can use GitHub for their private projects with up to three collaborators per repository for free. Many developers want to use private repos to apply for a job, work on a side project, or try something out in private before releasing it publicly. Starting today, those scenarios, and many more, are possible on GitHub at no cost. Public repositories are still free (of course—no changes there) and include unlimited collaborators.

      • GitHub Enterprise is the new unified product for Enterprise Cloud (formerly GitHub Business Cloud) and Enterprise Server (formerly GitHub Enterprise). Organizations that want the flexibility to use GitHub in a cloud or self-hosted configuration can now access both at one per-seat price. And with GitHub Connect, these products can be securely linked, providing a hybrid option so developers can work seamlessly across both environments.

@travisdh1 I suppose it is ok that stuff isnt there, as long as the scorpion-tank battle happens at the end.

Well, I think I counted 3 of the major story arcs in that trailer, one from the original series, one from Born Again Complex, and one from the movie.

Edit: So who knows what they're going to do.

Good or bad, I'll be happy to sit through 2 hours of Scarlett Johansen in that bodysuit.

      RIGHT?

Who cares? Does ML have the funds for a lawsuit? No, probably not. Unless we all want to start paying monthly fees for the use of ML, but I would think that would defeat the purpose of ML in the first place.

They don't want us to have anything to do with them. If that's the case, then let them go burn their boat while they are rowing it.

      Had Sushi for lunch today.

      Simple and pretty cheap.

      Cheap sushi in America? Ewww.

We have a good grocery store named Wegmans (that started here in rochester) it's actually really good, and well priced.

It's not super awesome sushi but it is actually pretty good. Wegmans prices are awesome and the sushi is made fresh right there in store.

Maybe there is something actually to Wegman's.

I'm looking for a discussion at one level higher (or so) than systems.

      You mean platforms?

I'm not being specific because I don't exactly know what it is I want, I just know what it is not. In my mind a systems (very generally used) is a discussion or training on how to use a system and what goes into it. Those are great, but not what I'm looking for at this point. I want to learn about and talk to other people about how to see 5-10 years down the road and be able to position my company's systems so that we are ready to make the next leap forward.

How can you know what is coming 5-10 years when your CEO/owner can't see past 5? Shouldn't we base the demands of IT on the needs of the company/organization?

The end and side cubbies are already made for the bed. I still have to build the storage box to fill the rest of the empty space to complete the beds themselves. Then I'll start on the hutch. I have to modify the hutch a little bit in order to get the entire thing to fit into the room.
