And watch how many people dive back into the flood waters to take their chances with the snakes and gators?

Thats their choice, but at least the church would be doing what it was originally meant to do.

Not looking for RSS feeds, just custom text that she can manually input and would scroll at the bottom of the screen for employee's to see throughout the day.

RSS would be a good input method for that, though.

Yeah, he is not listening to a damned thing. the best thing to do would be to use an RSS ticker and just whip out a quick RSS formatted file someplace that can be edited.

Doing something custom on the machine is just stupid.

If you want to explain better how to do that, I'll listen, but no reason to be a dick about it.

If he wasn't, I would think that something was wrong.

I thought the original goal of the church was as a money grab to help people as they traveled. With the expectation of leaving something of value to the church as a form of gratitude. . . .

The purpose of the church is many things:

      1. Help imperfect people become more like Christ
      2. Spread the Good News of the Gospel to everybody.

Yes, in this case no one uses the computer, it's just setup for display. No one except her uses it.
      So YES.

Sounds like a post-it note on the monitor is the correct solution here

A post it doesn't scroll information on the bottom of the screen.

Correct, it doesn't scroll, but it can display static information, which is what you're describing.

Yes but she wants it to scroll several different things.

Several different post-it notes then. Sorry. Couldn't resist.

@bbigford said in Office 365 PowerShell question:

While in an Office 365 PowerShell session, anyone know what the 'name' value refers to? I think what a client did was simply rename an account when someone quit, and here is the result.

Amanda quits, backfilled by Jane. Display name, UPN, SAM, alias, everything shows as Jane, except 'name'. Going through Exchange mailbox and MSO user properties via the GUI, no trace of the word 'Amanda' anywhere.

Anyone know what that value actually refers to? Before today I thought it was probably UPN, until today I saw there is a separate value for UPN.

      Can you show an example?

      0_1525112201908_2018_04_30_12_13_26_Administrator_Windows_PowerShell_ISE.png

      0_1525112210220_2018_04_30_12_15_24_Office_Admin_center_Home.png

That is the original user that occupied that account. Unfortunately, when DisplayNames are created, they cannot be altered. Of course, this company is doing it wrong anyways because the old user's account should be disabled and deleted after a while. New employees should be created new AD accounts. If the new employee needs something from the old employees account then the new employee should be granted access to the old employees mailbox.

    • RE: Chromebox for Clerks and Data Entry

      Going back to this topic.

Finally had a moment to take an old desktop, install Fedora 29 stock on it, run updates and installed remmina. It now connects to our ERP system just fine. Opened Firefox to O365 web portal for email and Excel Online. Boss was impressed. Informed him that, instead of Group Policy, we would place these types of machines in an untrusted zone with just access to the Internet and open ports to the Salt Stack master and the ERP system between the trusted and untrusted zones. Boss still impressed.

He asked about comparison between Fedora Linux management and Google Chromebook management. Where SaltStack is free, we would have to pay for Google Enterprise administration on an annual basis.

Not there yet, but a step in the right direction.

Guy hasn't had a chance to even tell us requirements, and [insert vendor here] already has the best possible solution for the requirements that haven't been named.

Yeah that's why I don't even bother reading Vendor comments. The only exception is Kooler from StarWimd he seems to be the only Vendor who actually knows things and not just trying to blindly sell software .

      Oh, you mean this @KOOLER?

So we are overflow for an MSP in Brooklyn. Their Labtech software is either VERY badly setup or it really sucks.... can't tell which at this point. EVERY ticket that comes in sends us an email that it's assigned to us. Go to the Dashboard and they aren't .... what a pain! Not to mention putting in a note to the stupid ticket is a PITA

I'd start doing work. When you bill them and they ask you why they're getting billed, I'd be like "You contacted us for work. We did the work. You owe us money now." That should get that changed real quick.

Schools close at the drop of a hat anymore. Too afraid of lawsuits.

      Not around here.

In our highschool (that @Minion-Queen and I went to) we had a few students die because they didn't close the school when obviously they needed to and there was no safe way to get to school from even right across the street, even on foot... but they still kept not closing them.

I would rather them close at the drop of a hat than not at all when they should. Safety should come first.

I don't really understand why there are physical schools at all, for the most part. The entire idea is antiquated.

Without public schools, where would the janitors and fast food employees of tomorrow come from? Also, how could the county keep raising my property taxes without the existence of public schools leeching tons of tax money?

The whole thing needs to be revamped. Superintendents making way too much money and teachers not making enough.

Fast food wasn't meant to be a career. It was only supposed to be a job until the person got out of high school or something.
