    • RE: Canned Responses in Helpdesks

I use them but I am not a MSP. I use them here at my work for common requests, such as a document in our document management did not get checked in. I mean there are only so many ways to say: "I have made the document(s) available. If you receive an error that they are "already selected for editing" log out and then back in. They will be available then." These are for the common things that most employees know what is going on. Also if a secretary requests that we add an attorney to their dictation tray, I use a response then. Also if they request one of our conference lines, I have an auto response set up with the information they will need once I reserve it for them at the time they requested. I use them a lot for notes on what I did to someone's computer. i.e. I have a private note for when I delete someone's computer profile, outlook profile, etc. easy way for me to document. For example "Deleted computer profile due to the issues they were having. Issues where as follows: " and then I just type what issues they were having. Again I have a real good relationship with my users so I don't think it is as big of issue for me. I can tailor my responses to my environment. I wouldn't use them at a MSP where I am dealing with different clients.

Finally able to get back to my "real" project of creating DR documentation. 🙂

      You drinking already?

I didn't sleep well last night on top of the fact that it was a busy morning, and I had only one cup of coffee this so later in the morning I stated out loud "I need a drink". What I meant to say/mean was "I need another cup of coffee" but it just came out "I need a drink" which with the last two weeks here it is not far off.

So you basically submitted a ticket without rebooting first?

Avast Business Antivirus update is causing BSOD in Windows 7 machines

      https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=199156.0

I have this happening at two client locations of mine. Update for the fix is suppose to be out in about an hour and a half.

A temporary work around is to disable FileSystem shield.

@scottalanmiller we are looking at off loading our document management system. I work at a law firm and we create 3000 to 5000 documents a day easy. Talking to one vendor that is cloud based and they quoted us that we need 3 Mbps connection for 250 people.

    • RE: The High Cost of On Premises Infrastructure

@JaredBusch I think over the next 5 to 10 years as the cost of a 1Gbps connection comes down and the availability of 1Gbps increases, speed of access will be less of a concern.

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-4319436/Singularity-create-super-humans-Google-expert-claims.html

"Technological singularity will turn us into super humans some time in the next 12 years, according to a Google expert. This might sound like science fiction, but Google's Director of Engineering, Ray Kurzweil has made 147 predictions since the 1990s and has an 86 per cent success rate. Kurzweil says when we live in a cybernetic society we will have computers in our brains and machines will be smarter than human beings. "

More and more I am being convinced that we are to become the Borg homeworld. Also more and more I want to go off grid and move to a remote part of Alaska.

@NerdyDad Untangle has this exact issue in Citrix Xenserver 6.5 and 7.1, been here before. Was going to virtualize Untangle. It didn't work, so I left it on its own box as it was working fine. Once the need arises for me to get it to work I will tackle it. Reid Cooper hit it on the head the Xen PV kernel is stripped out of Untangle too. Works fine in VMWare, and KVM.

Should, in theory, be able to get it working with HVM. But it still needs drivers.

True, but as it was running fine on the hardware they had. I couldn't justify the time and cost to my client. I honestly want to move them off of Untangle. It is fine but their upgrade process has made me very upset. That though should be an entirely different thread.

I have an audible subscription. I drive so much that listening to books is the only way I get to digest them any more. I have been listening to the Legacy Fleet Trilogy by Nick Webb. I like it. I also have been listening to Thomas Sowell and some of his more pivotal pieces.
