      Cats must be evil!

      You get home,

Your cat wants you to think of them first.

So they puke on the floor in a room. When you feel it you quick step to get away from it and then find they have another surprise waiting for you with your other foot.

You turn on the lights to find, they had set up a gauntlet for your arrival. Your fate was already sealed. Lol

Then while washing your feet in the tub, you almost became part of @scottalanmiller next fail army post!

Is this what actually happened today?

Yup wrote it after I finished cleaning up the mess. Lol

      Damn
      It got better, lol

I finished cleaning the mess, to notice it was really wet near the cat litter box. (She doesn't miss) which means my 5 year old son must have peed in the cat box again lol. (Caught him one night sleep peeing)

To finish it off, I went to say good night to my wife (in the bedroom) and stepped in another pile of puke. Back to the tub again. (This time I was smart enough to not almost fall in the tub again.

      Anyways:

Good night, if I'm still here tomorrow the cat didn't kill me!

    • RE: Closing down, have some equipment for sale

      Thank you everyone,

Things have been going well despite my jump.

My father moved away last year and it opened a big spot for me to work in the construction field.

So far this year I have made more in the first 6 months than my entire last year. I'm just ahead of my full time job.

Anyway. I like to help people out as much as possible. But I'm torn.

I have an offer for the unit right now. I'm trying to get in as much capital for my business. I have a lot of tax right offs right now.

I have enjoyed the past 10months and not thinking about computers.

      Chad

The gravatar site had a rather major security flaw that if used on other NodeBB sites, a users contact information was presented to everyone.

Just apply your avatar directly on this site.

      Yup, just upload.

I finally found it. I kept seeing upload a photo. I didn't realize that was for the little icon. I was thinking it was the full page banner photo on the profile.

....care to share anything about the internship?

Dev? sysadmin? netadmin? design? ...... Length of internship? relocation available? What's the company culture like? What does the company even do? etc.

I'm working on getting that info... should have it next Mon.

It is a contractor for the federal government, likely revolves around software testing. But not sure. Contact was an intern for a month an a half and was hired on full time. Somewhere near 60k

Just wanted to see if anyone is interested...

Since I was explicitly talking about restaurants, yes. Yes I have found ones that talk about IT.

Small town restaurants don't think about competition as much as getting people to come to their area together.

Like when independent coffee shops like it when a Starbucks opens across the street...

And they buy IT? We never find restaurants buy IT at all.

I have also seen that. The restaurants don't care about it. They have a small system and other stuff. But in the end it is their lowest priority. They won't budget for it.

I know restaurants with flat and open networks, no firewalls, just computers running Xp and chugging along swiping cards on the swiper all day.

I could talk till I'm blue in the face they don't care.

They also are a proud bunch... they tend to look down on you (especially if the owner is the chef)

@DustinB3403 said in Your Time Is Valuable:

I agree, I feel like I'm "wasting time" by being forced to wait for a decision etc. I really have to change how I think about business transactions.

I also had a hard time years ago with this. Sometimes I still do...

So much of our work is "waiting on this or that" to finish.

Several years ago I was called out to a retail shop.

They had issues with their network printer.

As I started checking things on site and getting the lay out. I found their network was hanging by threads. Literally the wires held everything up nothing was secured.

They also had an open and default setting network. I helped them secure the router. And got everything working for the time being. I left them with a set of plans to resolve the issue and not bandaid it.

I was working on site multple times and the manager would have "meetings sometimes for an hour" in the network room where I needed to be. And this would happen after I was on site. So I sat around... I let that clock run full steam!(I billed (my door back -out their door)

I'm over it. I will almost always bill for all of the time with someone.

They have accused me of trying to nickel and dime them. I rebutted that with you asked me to bandaid an open wound I told what needed to be done to fix it. You never approved it. Just the bandaid. These bandaids happened on multple occasions. People tampering with the systems causing all of the issues.

All problems outside of my control.

Also when they went to a static IP across the organization 17 stores. Some worked the next day. Others didnt. And I got blamed for 1 of them not working. All because TWC told them it was my fault. That's when they started blaming me!

I figured out that the problem was on TWC, and I took care of that with the customer right there. They saw I fought for them. But to this date I haven't done anymore work for them. I will likely keep it that way.

    • Thoughts on the BBB! Good ~ Bad

Ok I'm wondering about the BBB,

I have always be told and felt that they were a trust worthy source for info on a company.

I would hope that that would take a neutral stance and provide mediation when needed. I have seen good and bad things about companies on there

I have seen a post from about a year ago, and how they aren't really to be trusted.

Now I have always tried to operate with fairness to myself and my customers, and I I tend to bias my customers more.

I know this will bring out some discussion.

I ask because how many people "Companies" look at a BBB status about another organization before they do business with them?

I have been working in my area, and one of the areas largest companies was knocking on my "Door" they are valued at somewhere around 100mil. They have had some IT issues and needed some help.

I have recently received a call again from them this past month (I missed it, and they didn't leave me a message) I only have one contact there and he said it wasn't him. Which means it is likely the CIO or other C level. (He was going to set up a meet)

I started this thread because the BBB called, and said there had been inquiries into my business by several larger companies in my area. Coincidence... Maybe, But not sure it is possible.

It is also possible that is just the hook phrase, and its not true.

My thought is, if there are companies out there that still rely and trust them for "Assistance" in a decision on whether or not to do business. Maybe it could be helpful. I have zero desire to squash negatives, they happen. It is through the resolution of those issues and how you handle it, that others will determine if they will conduct business with you.

Same here, i really want to attend MangoCon 2017. If the dates fixed earlier, it will give me some time to plan and actually book tickets this time 🙂

I plan on going next year. Hopefully I can get work to pay for it but I may have to crash on someone's couch/split a room to make it more affordable.

I wouldn't mind a split, shoot you could even stop up here and car pool to the next one.

Second addition... Got a new concealed carry today. Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 45. Was hard to find one without a safety as it hasn't been out long at all.

You want an item in your trousers which could go off and blow off your crown jewels? 🙂

      Why without a safety?

The safety on that firearm is in the trigger. If you notice the two part design...

I believe what he meant is a lockable slide lock. Which requires a key to unlock the slide before it can be fired.
