Then you have other issues. Which lots of people do, of course, where you can't let them have admin access to anything as they can't stop handing out their passwords (and yes, we see this all the time, too.)

It's amazing how true this is!

Huh? GitHub has VSCode as well for an editor now.

It does? When I hit edit, it uses the shitty editor. I don't see an option for VSCode?

Found it, "open in github.dev" does it. I never tried that option, but also it's rare I ever edit in the web browser.

Oh I never did that method. I just hit the period button and it opens.

There are many sites that can generate the right qr code for him to print out.

    For example https://wifiqrcode.com

Hey Pete. I wish I knew you well enough to put you on my Christmas list. That idea was the BOMB! My bad for those who are not hip to that term. It was a great idea.

I also talked him into getting a Unifi Dream Router (UDR). With the UDR you don't need to buy extra gear. It's a 4 in one. It's a router, switch, AP and controller. There's another one called Unifi Dream Machine (UDM). It's a 3 in 1. It's a switch, AP and Controller. Both can create a captive portal / splash screen.

Here's a side by side comparison:

If anyone else has any cool ideas like Pete, please share. I'm open to learning and sharing information.

If anyone is interested, below are setup video of both products.

    UDR - Router
    UDM - Machine

In the mean time, MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I got excited and started to re-consider my initial heart attack the other day when I searched up the UDR.. That sheet is old and incorrect. the UDR on Amazon is the same price as the UDM - $400+

I'm already looking to re-engineer my entire network from a ERL and UniFi controller running on Ubuntu ...

Is the original document already an excel spreadsheet? and in this function that e-mails the document you also want to "save As" the document?

This is what we use in one of our vba apps, it saves the excel to a new name in another folder.

    SaveAsFileName = "s:\Sales Docs\Quotes\Sales\" & Forms!Call_Ticket!Combo101 & "-" & Forms!Call_Ticket![Project Name] & ".xls" xlApp.ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs (SaveAsFileName) Set xlSheet = Nothing Set xlBook = Nothing Set xlApp = Nothing

@PhlipElder said in How to fix RDP dpi awareness problems:

@Pete-S We have a few older accounting apps we support that don't scale well in RemoteApp no matter what the client setting is. The menu items appear to be microscopic.

    90d87eb7-6122-43bb-8892-390312fb198a-image.png

Great for Session Host desktops but what about RemoteApp?

Windows DPI scaling is not working 100% so it is what it is.

I have on purpose avoided purchasing any display / resolution combination that doesn't fall between 90 to 110 dpi. So I don't really get into much trouble.

Anyway, I don't have any specific experience with remoteapp. But since it uses RDP I would disable the scaling in the registry on the server. And then work on setting the dpi on the server to whatever is needed. There is also the possibility of setting DPI scaling behavior on a per application basis.

That's the route I would go.

DPI settings are normally per user but if you have users with multiple devices with widely different dpi I don't think you can get it right.

Yeah, we learned that lesson with the first batch of ultra-high resolution laptops that we deployed and users started complaining almost immediately. We were able to bandaid to some degree as the Session Host settings would get picked up by the RemoteApps after the user tweaked them and logged out of the SH Desktop but those legacy menus never did get addressed.

    Folks need a magnifying glass.

Besides buying new laptops there is also the option of changing the resolution to a non-native resolution.
From 3840x2160 to 1920x1080 for example. That always work.

Not ideal of course but better than not seeing it at all...

Now that isc-dhcp-server is officially eol, what is most/everybody using ?
    isc-kea ? or ????

We use the firewalls dhcp server, which happens to use ics dhcp. But in either case there's no point in doing anything at the moment. Making a decision on a replacement is a couple of years away from now.

When distros deprecate the ics-dhcp package then it's time to see what options there are. We use debian and given each release lifecycle that will be a decision for debian 13 (the next, next release) which will probably happen late 2025.

@Pete-S That's a commercial module that relies on using their official distro. I use PIAF, and would prefer to find an OSS if available.

I don't think there is one but Zoho CRM has full REST api, webhooks and what not, so it's certainly possible to roll your own integrations in different ways.

There are also a bunch of integrations under Zoho Phonebridge which basically connects all the different Zoho apps to a PBX.

But they are vendor based so while I'm sure many of them are using asterix under the hood, they will probably not work with something else.

AFAIK, Even VNC doesn't work on Wayland yet.

    Nor does MeshCentral

Really? Now I need to go try that when I have a minute.

I just confirmed that mine is working on the default Fedora 37 desktop using both Firefox and Chromium.

    Wayland with MeshCentral?

You SURE you are on Wayland?

Isn't Wayland the default for Fedora now? I'm using the stock Fedora, so I'm thinking I am.

Double check that. Maybe you updated from something with X.org.

Fresh install. Wiped root before installing (it was way behind, no point in upgrading).

Do you have NVIDIA drivers on the system? Those will revert you back to X.Org

Yep, sure do. Guess it's not wayland then.

    You can check with

    loginctl

    and

    '''
    loginctl show-session -p Type <sessionid>

    loginctl show-session -p Type 2
    Type=wayland

Well shoot, are my Nvidia drivers not working? The more I find out, the more things I need to look at/fix.

What do you have it set to use?

I was under the impression that if you install the NVidia drivers, that you would wind up with X11 and not Wayland.

It seems relatively new based on a quick Google search. What made you consider it as a viable "no code" solution? What other options are you considering?

Also airtable is a pretty popular tool. I think that could count as no code.

@Pete-S Not sure if he even has a CRM setup. Often when clients like an aspect of a current implementation, telling them that you can't, that you must do it a different way isn't always met positively. They say - Yes I want the new better stuff, but I still need this old piece.

    Right!
There's no CRM and no need for CRM. Just need those two bits of info in the screen shots. More is fine, but must have this info, can even be laid out different and doesn't really need smileys.

If you want a dashboard, Netdata does that out of the box. If you want a pretty dashboard for Zabbix, then that's when Grafana is going to shine. Build an amazing sexy dashboard for your Zabbix data on Grafana to make management happy about a monitoring solution.

I've had some fun with Grafana, Telegraf, and InfluxDB but it's been a while.

The above were done during one of our SMB S2D cluster proof runs. Grafana was great for helping to pinpoint what was going on while it was happening. We were able to do some pretty good tuning to pull off great IOPS and Throughput numbers from a little Intel Xeon E3 single socket platform with SATA SSDs for cache and SAS HDDs for capacity.

@BraswellJay you don't need one with word. In Word, just export as pdf.

I can't do that in bulk that way though, can I?

My user may have 50 or so word files and she wants to convert them all to separate PDFs without having to open each one individually in word.

I thought there may be a tool that would just let her bulk select all and convert them all at once.

You can do it with PowerShell. Make a simple script for the user to run.

    Here's one resource that works:

Am I imagining things or did Windows licensing at one point allow for use of a virtual environment on top of the physical install? If this is (still?) the case, would a W10 install in vbox do the trick?

Licenses fo Windows Server editions allow this.
Standard Windows 10 licenses do not allow running in VMs.
