    • Disk partitioning- Vmware Linux guest

I am currently working on to standardize our VMs (current OS has versions of CentOS from 5 to 6.7). The new setup is on VMWare, i know there will be questions on why vmware. (that is decided already based on several factors and management decision).

So i am setting up centos7 with disk partitions and on that setup it has an option for LVM. Just wondering if we really need to use that as the storage could be extended using vmware and so do we need to go with LVM again on the OS side? I believe disk expansion would be simple on vmware side.

    • RE: Offline virus scanner - what do you use?

I've used http://www.sarducd.it/rescue-cd-antivirus.html once and used kaspersky from there to remove. Not sure if its still as effective as it used to be!

Basically this gives you an option to boot and use most of the free AV rescue disk and if your machine is connected to internet, it will download the latest signature updates to the temp storage and use it for scanning

      Youtube Video

This says you don't need a reboot for resizing. So if i understood this correctly, in my case VMWare can increase disk space on the fly, and then using LVM i make that space available to the volume group and then can be used to increase the space on the server with resize2fs.

I am planning to have the / and /var with LVM ext4, hope i can set only these two as LVM. does that make sense?

    • Issue with Elasticsearch

Configured Elasticsearch for activecollab search to work on CentOS7. ActiveColab needs 1.7.4 version of elasticsearch. Issue is elasticsearch stops after some time, and couldn't figure out the reason/fix yet.

    • RE: online file server and backup

For box/ODFB once the account is set, they get support+access even though they pay the monthly fee and that too only based on number of users. If i need to give own cloud for them, i need to consider my time to setup and maintain this ongoing and they need to pay may be more than what they will pay for those online services. At least that's what i think. For me to keep the unlimited, managed owncloud for more than 1TB, need to find a good hosting provider, see if the cost of that+the maintenance fee for me to manage this services, i guess if they are not willing to sign a retainer contract, its not worth spending that time.

Keepass is pretty good. You can host it on DropBox or ownCloud or whatever to share it.

Looks like a good option, nothing to maintain as a central repo, i hope the same file can be used on different machines same time via dropbox

@alex.olynyk What is your Sonicwall model? Your snapshot wizard looks different from the NSA series if am not mistaken. If its a low end version like TZ series, try this and setup using the rule wizard.

Need to check this today, can this be a complete replacement of other web control panels like webmin? I dont expect this to replace cPanel, but basic management that can be done on webmin if available in cockpit would be great.
