I agree, once you have been infected just take a backup in case there is something that needs to be recovered later and then wipe the slate clean and start fresh.

RE: Testing server for errors or performance issue?posted in IT Discussion
I never do anything formal. In the setup process a lot of things get stressed anyway. Normally I am using the server quite a bit before turning it over to users so I do not tend to worry about further testing.
Especially if you are dealing with a virtualized platform, it's been doing a lot of things before this point.

Trying to figure out why my internal firewall is returning ping times of 2-300ms when it should be 0ms... I'm directly connected to it even. Jitter rate is in the 60-100% range too... something isn't right.
Oh now that's just not right. What kind of firewall is it?

RE: Replacement for Drobo B800iposted in IT Discussion
Sounds like the Drobo B810i might be ideal. If the B800i has worked well for so long and the only issue is that it is getting long in the tooth, going to the replacement model would be the logical step. Maybe the drives can even be moved from the old chassis to the new?

What are the chances that the drives are as old as the chasis?
They die one by one, though. You can replace them when they die if you want. The Drobo units are RAID 6. Slow, but not terribly risky.
