Failing to Get ASP.NET Working on IIS 8.5 on Windows Server 2012 R2posted in IT Discussion
I am working on a small internal project and am setting up a Windows Server 2012 R2 server (in a VM, of course) with IIS 8.5 to server an ASP.NET application. I am getting errors even in getting a test ASPX page to work. I am not trying to do anything complex, just a standard test page, but nothing appears to be working. I am sure that it is something simple that I am overlooking. I have installed IIS and am getting an error page from it, so that seems to be okay. The ASP.NET components have been installed but they do not seem to do anything. I am getting a 404.17 error.

HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found
The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler.
From the looks of the error, it seems like it can't figure out that ASP.NET needs to render the page.

@dashrender said in Firefox Quantum Has Released:
They moved the reload button.

That kind of stuff is just frustrating.

This is the test file, in case it matters:
<%@ Page Language="VB" %> <script runat="server"> Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) lblVersion.Text = "Your server is running ASP.NET and the version is " & System.Environment.Version.ToString() End Sub </script> <html> <head> <title>ASP.NET Version</title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:Label ID="lblVersion" runat="server"></asp:Label> </form> </body> </html> -

ASP.NET on Windows Server 2012 R2 IIS 8.5 HTTP 500.19 Errorposted in IT Discussion
Okay, hot on the heels of my last issue now I have the actual app that I want to deploy copied over from a working (but older) system. The error that I get is that I have duplicate configuration data, not something that I would expect to have worked in one place and not in another. Not sure why this would be coming up now.

HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error
The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

RE: Seagate Shows Off World's Fastest Hard Driveposted in News
It's interesting that Seagate feels that continuing to invest in spinning drive technology continues to make sense today. That has to be really expensive research that they are doing. Great that they are squeezing more performance from the technology, but will that additional performance and additional sales that it generates, offset the research cost versus investing more into solid state technologies?
Maybe if this was a 200% increase in performance, or a 1,000% increase. But only 60% seems like it would be exceptionally hard to justify unless it was somehow tied to a huge leap in density or drop in manufacturing cost.

Awesome, the discount is still available. Very nice.

OMG, nevermind. Figured that out too. Was a combination of a missing default path and the same .NET CLR pool version as before. It's a subfolder and needs its CLR version set, too. Argh. All is well now.

Nice, for ten dollars I'd be happy to pick one up just to play around with. That's certainly in the silly money range.

Four hundred yards isn't all that far. Might be worth a small investment in equipment to see if it could cut through some dense foliage.

@JaredBusch ah ha, there we go! The 2.0 pool had "stopped" for some reason. I started it and the site came up. Thanks!

RE: âCatastrophicâ hack on email provider destroys almost two decades of dataposted in News
Basically if you are going to run a service of this nature, you probably want to build in the cost of immutable backups from the beginning. Just assume it is a required cost and build around it. Don't look at it years later and say "how do I afford this." You wouldn't say "SMTP costs too much, we will skip that", right? So the same with fully separate backups.
That said, if he had a central repository of passwords that was cracked as someone mentioned, they might have shut down any storage accounts elsewhere.

You've been at your current job a very long time! That will be a big shock, I am sure, moving to a new place.

You would think that they would be aware that people would be discussing every case of them not responding. None of this kind of stuff ever stays private any longer.
