Trying out the free avast business cloud antivirus.

How many users is it free for?

      Says unlimited. https://www.avast.com/en-us/avast-for-business

It looks really nice so far. Centrally managed and free.

What is the business model there? They must need to monetize this somehow, right? This looks a bit too good to be true.

At those prices, worth testing it out. Can't really go very wrong.

If you want the sandbox feature, email phishing detection, some kind of firewall, and some vpn abilities through them you have to pay.

I guess that could make sense. Still, AV as a loss leader seems like an odd play.

      What is the sandbox feature?

@Shuey said in Windows Update Error 0x800B0100:

Might be a long shot, but we have some machines on our network that can't successfully install dozens of updates. We've actually tested a few boxes where we download each patch individually from Microsoft's site and installed them one at a time (rebooting after each single patch install) and they successfully installed.

So you think that maybe doing it one at a time might work when doing them all at once will not? maybe there is some update conflict in a couple of the packages.

So I talked to someone who does this. The training for one of these printers in usually around 10-15 hours to learn to use them depending on their proprietary software. So knowing Vector Graphics is a very tiny piece to it. That being said the printer companies do usually provide this training when you purchase the printer so might be worth it to them.

The printers are quite a bit of money in initial purchase and maintenance. Although $15,000 may be about right for an entry level one.

Sounds about right for what I have seen. That will be very entry level, but viable.

A lot of those workaways actually sound really exciting. Some really fun locations and working with kids with computers would be a lot of fun.

      1. Of course, I do not want to use main administrator account at client PCs while setting up applications, or any admin tasks, so what kind of account should I create (limited) ?

Every admin should have their own admin account that they use, not shared accounts.

Okay not shared accounts. Whether every IT person should have admin account with full rights ? isn't there any limited permission group for setting up applications etc. ?

IF the IT person needs an admin account (if they're only changing passwords, give them that specific right, not full admin). Then you want a standard user account for them to use, and a special admin account for each person who needs it. That way you're able to run audits, which are impossible with any shared account.

      Got it.

The concept of "least privileges" - don't give people the power to do anything that they don't need to do.
