@JaredBusch said in Verizon Adds Unlimited Data (again) with restrictions:

T-mobile's current plan is unlimited and 10gb for tethering.

      0_1487345891514_upload-fe46abcb-cbaa-4fa0-856e-fcad26534a4d

The fine print at the bottom of that add:

Qual’g plan req’d. On all T-Mobile plans, if congested, top 3% of data users (>28GB/mo.) may notice reduced speeds due to prioritization. Sales tax & regulatory fees included in mo. service price. No cost HD feature US only. After 10GB, tethering at max 3G speeds. See more

I've been debating on leaving Sprint and going to T-Mobile. I only use 6 GB/month of data on my phone alone, max. 10 GB of data for a laptop wouldn't be a problem at all for me to manage.

Also, @JaredBusch, do you get some kind of kickback for referring others to T-Mobile? Such as a code or something?

@NerdyDad On the plus side, this environment was so effed up, I'm not THAT terribly upset about starting from scratch. It'll be a beating to get a lot of that data back, however. Anyone know of any services able to accomplish such a thing?

I ran into a similar issue with a failed drive almost 2 months ago. Almost lost the farm on it. I had a RAID6 on an EqualLogics. I called ACE Data Recovery here in Dallas. They told me to bring my last failed drive and a brand new drive of the same model and size to them. Overnight and $2,400 later, my SAN was limping along enough for me to get the data off of it and retire the SAN. I don't know where at in Dallas you are, but it might be worth checking out. They may be able to help.

      @scottalanmiller

At this point, I'm even at a loss on trying to figure out where to begin to explain to him how this is possible, as he hasn't seem to accept the premise in the first place.

When is he due back in the office? I would try to get on his schedule first thing ASAP, sit down with him, and talk with him about this. Maybe he can't visualize it over the phone, but once you draw it out for him, then he might be able to understand.

If he still refuses, I'd have a sheet of paper that a lawyer has drawn up that takes the blame off of you that he has to sign. CYA all you can here. Document everything and how you found it. I'd also be looking actively for other opportunities as well with a resignation in hand as a last resort.

    • New Years Resolutions?

      What are your resolutions?

      I have 2.

      • Cut sodas. Drink nothing but water and sweet tea (occasionally on the sweet tea).

      • Start working out and becoming more active. I'm not going out, getting a gym membership for an entire year and only using it for a day. Just thinking about starting off with some walking/jogging/running and some aerobics to burn the fat off. Not so much on building muscle yet as to lose the weight.

My concern about this topic is to be careful of what you give your kids and the "items" that they have, no matter if they are awake or asleep. Otherwise, it might be creepy.

I think, though, that we expect those concerns with full general purpose computers (which includes tablet form factors) but that real toys are the surprise that many people do not think about.

People don't think about their light bulbs or TVs either, but they should!

Right, if they have smart ones (I actually don't know anyone who does for lightbulbs and only a few people with smart TVs.) I love the idea of this stuff being smart, I'm just not seeing any first hand adoption. I agree that they should, but I think the best way to convey that is to not call our normal computers toys, but to recognize that lots of things are connected and need to be managed.

This is why I support the Right to Repair. This gives citizens the right to open up their devices and see what is truly going on within them.

Nearly time for some wine. I've been having red wine every day for about ten days now. Trying to make it a lifestyle.

Now that we have Internet, we are working on unpacking and getting things set up around the new house. Dominica managed to get a hot shower, I had an ice cold one 😞 We have very limited water here, which is going to be a huge pain. But the wine is excellent and the Internet seems decent right now.

Obviously then, the resolution is simple: bathe in wine, OR drink all the wine before bathing so that you'll never notice the cold water.
A more complicated solution would be a tankless heater.

Dedicate Dillards for one client and JCPenney's for another client?

You need to grow? Okay, we'll move you from the small mom & pop shop and move you into where Radio Shack used to be. That will double your space.

I just quit messing with Spiceworks altogether, both at the community and in the application. The last update broke device-owner relationships and it seemed that Support didn't care. I had posted last Wednesday and they didn't bother to answer/acknowledge the post until Monday. Either due to lack of people there or low morale.

      https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1957463-association-between-devices-owners-broke?utm_campaign=forum_pm&utm_medium=email&utm_source=unanswered_topic_pm

When they did respond, they didn't offer to remote in and look at the problem, but was confronted with (I'm not getting other reports and I'm not able to reproduce the problem) kind of thing. I am not too concerned with restoring the data as we're moving to another platform and almost to the point of not needing it anymore.

Kind of lost hope and faith in Spiceworks, as a company.

That was such a disaster. That's what kept me from doing anything with them all that time. They worked really hard after that to try to explain why they screwed up so badly, but it was epically bad. Worst conference screw up I've ever seen, and from professional presenters no less. It definitely made me question their capabilities to the point that I've never looked at their product. Given that I now know that I'd be blocked from discussing it if I did test it, it saves me from ever needing to.

Totally agree. I was in that room. A professional speaker didn't research his target audience and says that it is because they were new to the vendor region in SW? Noooo... I don't think so. They didn't know what they were doing or who they were talking to, thought that they could get savvy and through in some cyber security lingo in there and we would start throwing money at them.

My boss went to their booth that same year and the guy was obnoxious. My boss only wanted to talk to the guy and get a demo or something, but the sales guy blew him off and just wanted him to listen to his spiel about how great they were and to buy their product.

No thank you. I'll stick to what I know and has already been proven.

I'm seeing it more as free code but not "free beer". Similar to the way Red Hat vs. CentOS is licensed. Both are open source, but one is free as in "free beer" (CentOS), but the other is not (Red Hat).
