My IT knowledge isn't quite in-depth enough for remote work at this point anyway. A lot of my experience is on-site support and production. While I find an opportunity for primarily remote work very enticing - I'm not sure I'm qualified in too many areas for that, and don't have large enough a client base, or steady projects for those areas I am.
Still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up.
Depending on what your on-site support tasks are it is likely that you have more than enough experience to work remotely. Especially if you are willing to put forth the time and dedication to invest your time to learning new systems and processes.
After twenty-five years of IT work being done on-site I'm now working remotely and continue to expand my knowledge and skills. I've taken what I have applied over those many years, and what I have picked up on the last two employments working with servers and services and apply it to my day.
While it has been a bit of a transition from being at the server, being at the problem, I've just expanded on doing the remote work I was already doing more of. I was on a team that supported thirteen automotive plants across the US and Mexico using remote support, then picking up use with LogMeIn, VNC and TeamViewer... ScreenConnect has been easy to learn, and gives the same 'freedom' as being at the desk to perform the tasks needed.
So don't think you may be lacking in experience,.. you may not actually lack what is needed.

RE: Popular hotel Internet gateway devices vulnerable to hacking
Regardless of it being a Hotel, Motel, fast food chain, hospital or even AT&T store Wi-Fi, I am cautious of using their networks.
While I am not a hacker, don't (think) I do anything nefarious, I do what I can to protect my device from networks I don't control.
That being said,.. I know my own home network could be compromised and I not be aware of it.

In some regard Earth has become uninhabitable...The moon is uninhabitable, space is uninhabitable.. and yet - there we are.. There are resources that are there that we would be able to harvest for the next step.
Mount Everest is uninhabitable, and yet thousands of people clammer up it's slopes - risking death or serious injury for the glory, the adventure, and the curiosity..

Google Purges bad Chrome extensions
""Tens of millions of users who visit Google sites use a browser loaded with malicious add-ons, research suggests.
Most rogue extensions bombard people with ads, but the most malicious steal login names and other valuable data.
Carried out by security experts and Google, the project analysed more than 100 million visits to the search giant's sites.
It led to Google purging almost 200 bad extensions from its online catalogues of browser add-ons."" -

So, several months ago the cable service was cut when the city came in a had to put in new drain line. It took about four days to get service resourced.
Well would you believe THEY CUT THE SAME LINE AGAIN?
What is wrong with people... UGH.
What happened to calling 811 before you dig?......
If your 811 before you dig is the same (or similar) to our 1100 before you dig, then this is good, obviously, because there is less chance to cut a cable
However, not everything is done the way the documentation says that it is. While onsite, the person laying the cable might decide to take a different route with the cable to save money/avoid something unforeseen/whatever. This rarely makes it back to the documentation. So the 811/1100 crowd might say "no worries, all good" but the neighbourhood phone lines are buried right where your about to dig...
True.. this is why cable, water, gas, power lines are 'toned' They are able to tone the line starting either from the service point or from the building...
So - I get to be an irate person tomorrow when I call.. This in addition to waiting for TWC to install a new modem at a remote site (apartment for the DVR). Not a secure closet,.. a linen closet in the tenants apartment... UGH!

Did they give you any reason as to why?Tiny plane. They had to switch planes from a 76 seater to a 55 seater at the last minute and couldn't fit everything.
Have they not heard of RAR or pkZIP? Sheesh...

Windows 3.1 Is Still Alive, And It Just Killed a French Airport
https://news.vice.com/article/windows-31-is-still-alive-and-it-just-killed-a-french-airport
A computer glitch that brought the Paris airport of Orly to a standstill Saturday has been traced back to the airport's "prehistoric" operating system. In an article published Wednesday, French satirical weekly Le Canard Enchaîné (which often writes serious stories, such as this one) said the computer failure had affected a system known as DECOR, which is used by air traffic controllers to communicate weather information to pilots. Pilots rely on the system when weather conditions are poor.

O365 is already not complaining about domain issues.I am thrilled to be clearing this step off the project board (which is buried). I know there will be tons of questions. but I have got to get this stuff moving. I can't keep living in the past with services and problems.

@gjacobse I've always been under the impression that you should highlight your strongest stuff first. My experience is stronger than my knowledge on paper although I do have a lot of stuff to add.
If I had to look at resumes for an hour, I want to know what you can do / have done. Not where you work. That comes when I decide to look at you harder... it's the Thirty second rule.... Wow me,.. but you are being timed....
