    • Acer 2 in 1: Memory Hog

So, the last few days, my normally quick and agile Acer Aspire 2 in 1 has been a tad bit sluggish.

Tonight I was looking at the memory management and Task Manager - I'm only running with about 25% free memory. This bothers me - Most people don't notice when the mouse is 'skippy' across their screen,.. but for it it's very apparent and annoying.

Looking at it I find that nearly 1.5GB of memory is being used by one process - E-GADS!

Has anyone had any experience with this 'IntelTechnologyAccessServices.exe being such a hog?

    • RE: MangoCon 2016 NYS

to continue the thread jack and talk about time off...

Vacations are nearly pointless for me. they drive me crazy. Do I need and take time off - absolutely. And maybe part of it is that for the last 10 years I have worked for Non Profits and was the soul IT person. Things had to be managed daily, and I would work from Hilton Head, or Kitty Hawk.

I feel I'm pretty blessed now working from home, so why do I need a 'vacation'. I plan to take time off, but it will back up to a weekend, I don't need much time,.. I just need a bit to unscramble.

So very important to know... if you have one of these HPs and you take it to Geek Squad or return it to HP or send it out for recycling: it is easily full of your very, very private data, stuff that you never yourself recorded on the machine!

I generally never let MY computer go without first DoD'ing the drive.... And if the system died (my ACER) I keep the HDD... nothing was wrong with it any way.

No logger found in my old system -

Yeah were we are we are lucky we get Lake effect from Erie and Ontario sometimes at the same time. Boy I really need to move.

And that is one of the nice things about Central Kentucky where I am. I get enough of all four seasons. We get snow,.. but it's only a moderate amount. We get heat,.. but nothing that is so brutal you can't make do. With the Daniel Boone National Forest and all the lakes, we have beautiful springs and colorful falls.. It seems like a really nice balance.

Now if you have allergies - forget it,.. not the greatest here...

    • Article: Removing user Admin Rights to Mitigate Most Microsoft Flaws

      <got this in email today>

      From the article:

A staggering 97% of critical Microsoft vulnerabilities reported over the past year could be mitigated by simply removing admin rights from user accounts, according to new research from security vendor Avecto.

The firm analyzed all the security bulletins released by Redmond during 2014 and found that taking away admin rights would mitigate 80% of all 242 flaws discovered during the period.

The figure rose to 98% for critical vulnerabilities affecting Windows operating systems, 95% for critical Office flaws and 99.5% for vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer, the firm claimed.

    • Apple could be rethinking its release cycle for iOS and macOS

Apple could be rethinking its release cycle for iOS and macOS

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is switching things up for this year’s major updates. Instead of meeting a tight deadline and ticking all the boxes on the checklist, development teams will be able to push back some features if they’re not polished enough.

Axios and Bloomberg previously reported that Apple was focusing on stability with iOS 12. You can still expect iOS 12 and macOS 10.14 this Fall (and probably new versions of watchOS and tvOS), but the WWDC keynote might be a bit shorter than in previous years.

Developers can now work on new features over two years. It should help when it comes to quality issues. iOS 11 hasn’t been perfect so far. Customers faced some weird bugs, such as autocorrect bugs, messages arriving out of order and the Calculator app not calculating properly.

Nice - Depending on how the house is set, you might be able to catch a sunrise or set across the 'edge of the world'

Setting up how the next few days are going to go, I had 12 voice mails while I was in Cincy yesterday. Safety meeting today and preparations to complete the transition next week. Going to do my due diligence to not get a paper cut with all the paper I have to sort through.

    • ASUS: Zenphone 5

ASUS’ ZenFone 5 stretches the limits of the term ‘AI’

As expected, ASUS officially revealed its new ZenFone 5 in Barcelona today, and if you don't mind I'm going to skip my usual meandering intro. The company talked up a handful of AI features in its latest midrange smartphone, but I think ASUS is throwing around the word "AI" haphazardly. More on that later though: Let's get the usual hands-on stuff out of the way first.
Yes, with its notched 6.2-inch screen and its vertically mounted dual camera, the ZenFone 5 looks quite a bit like an iPhone. (Just, you know, bigger and with a striking finish on its rear.) The 19:( screen is particularly nice (and that's not a typo): Colors appear much brighter and punchier than I had hoped, and it's longer than the standard 18:9 displays so videos played at full resolution aren't obscured by the notch. All told, generally a pleasure to gaze at, as long as you're not looking for a super high-resolution panel.
